In this activity, your team will research a grain to discover where it is grown, what foods are made from the grain and whether there are regional differences in the use of the grain. Do people make different foods from the same grain in different parts of the world? If so, why does this occur?

Your grain choices are: wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, rice, buckwheat, millet, quinoa, spelt, couscous. Find the following information:
  1. Where it is grown in the world?
  2. Foods made from the grains (discuss examples from a wide sampling of places around the world).
  3. Interesting information about the grain and how it is used.

Your fiber choices are: bamboo, cotton, wool, flax (linen), nylon, sisal, jute, polyester, silk, spandex, coir, modal. Find the following information:

  1. Where it is grown in the world?
  2. Items made from the fiber (discuss examples from a wide sampling of places around the world).
  3. Interesting information about the grain and how it is used.
